Vipp Pencil Factory
A GRAND TRANSFORMATION
Vipp Pencil Factory

GRAND OPENING

In a Copenhagen backyard in Islands Brygge, Vipp has transformed a 100-year-old pencil factory into a social dining room dedicated to sharpening your senses. Safeguarding the original factory features of the space while igniting an intimate and homey feeling was the brief given to interior designer, Julie Cloos Mølsgaard, who led the pencil in the transformation.

HISTORY

Sharpened-up factory

The Bauhaus-inspired building was once the home of 'Viking', manufacturer of the Danish iconic yellow school pencils. In 1919, the two-story factory building produced its first pencils. After a century as a production facility and showroom for various design brands, Vipp decided to repurpose the space as a social venue hosting supper clubs with world-class chefs.

“I set myself free to play around and experiment with a complementary mix of Vipp classics and new designs. Vipp Pencil Factory acts as sort of a testing lab where we can try out new ideas, forms and materials in unconventional ways”.

INTERIOR

Gallery vibe

Containing a gallery vibe, the space is curated with art objects from Galleri Nils Stærk, Etage Projects, 2112, and others.

Bright brush strokes

The entire factory space is decorated with a neutral and muted colour scheme of grey and beige tones. Custom sliding doors echo the industrial feel of exposed concrete beams and ceiling.

Art Lab

Guests are greeted with a string of carefully curated art pieces that include paintings, ceramics, sculptures, and conceptual installations mixed with Vipp’s collection.

Tactile treatment

The industrial frame is softened up by an array of upholstered Vipp furniture and a diverse palette of textures; Dinesen oak floors, Kvadrat curtains and carpets, ceramic wall sculptures by Alexandra Madirazza, tiles from Made-a-Mano, and Vipp marble tables.

Welcome to the first 'Vipp Supper Club' venue

“It’s not a restaurant. But we do invite spectacular chefs to cook up intimate dinners. Nor is it a nightclub. But we do invite talented musicians to play a tune. Nor is it a showroom. But we have invited renowned designers and artists to sharpen up the venue with a Vipp kitchen and furniture. And now, we invite you to book a seat at our long table.“ - Kasper Egelund, CEO and 3rd generation Vipp owner.

EXPERIENCE

Eyes, ears and tastebuds

As a space dedicated to sharpening your senses, Vipp Pencil Factory unfolds in a mix of food, design, art, culture and music. The centrally placed V2 kitchen by Vipp is the focal point of the entire room transforming the food preparation into a performance.

Sound of music

As a space dedicated to sharpening the senses, music plays a part in the dining experience as well. A variety of musical talents are invited to take the stage along with the grand piano, adding an element of private concert to the already intimate experience.

Vipp on a plate

From the 26-person long-table, guests are offered front-row seats to watch the talented chefs show off their craftsmanship preparing, plating, and presenting dishes right before their eyes.
